4 | Post-op Update

Hey everyone, this is Rick, Lindsey’s husband. I just wanted to get out a quick update to let everyone know that Lindsey is doing well. The doctors are very happy with how the surgery went and everything went according to plan. They finished in only 5 hours with no complications!

She was very nervous yesterday morning, which is VERY understandable. We heard the morning of that there was a chance she wouldn’t get a room and that if she didn’t that we wouldn’t be able to see her or help her by bringing some of the items she had prepared. On top of that, as she says, “There is no return policy on this jaw”. There were still some unknowns on how well and how permanently it would help her, and there was a lot of emotion built up from the last week before she went into surgery. Now, on the other side of the surgery, she is feeling very calm about it. She did get a room, so her parents and I were able to see her and help her through the worst parts of last night.

She has been in moderate pain through the night but is trying to stay ahead of it with medication. We were up pretty often through the night with lots of vital checks, IV beeps (so loud and obnoxious, at least Lindsey has a bunch of gauze around her ears to block them!), and medicine breaks, but she has been resting more peacefully the last few hours. She’s drinking lots of water and starting to talk. She’s feeling very congested from all the blood in her nose and throat, and claustrophobic from the swelling and the compression “jaw bra” wrapped around her head.

I want to thank all of you so much for your messages and your prayers for her, we have been overwhelmed with the amount of love coming in from all over! She hasn’t had a chance to see all of it yet, but we have read her some messages and told her how much of an outpouring of love you all have sent, and she is grateful.

  4. Dear Lindsey:

I can only imagine what you are going through, and know that nothing that I or anyone can now say will make you feel comfortable about where fate has now placed you.

I tell you this because I can also tell you the great lesson I’ve learned during a long life that has had its share of crises that left me feeling that my feelings of the day would be my feelings forever.

The lesson is this: That matters and feelings radically change, both in mystical ways and before one knows or expects it, when love is offered by the people who surround you. Somehow, the pain and fear of crisis lifts and the sun magically shines and world seems a good place to be in when love has been there in tough times, as it has been for you, and assurance is there that it will always be there.

Feel it though you may not at this moment, but that this will happen in your case is certain. In ways certain, you will feel lucky in your doctors, lucky in your friends and fan clubs, lucky in your pets, lucky in your sister, lucky in your parents who have offered me so much and — as to this I’m utterly certain based on what the experienced eyes of this old man has seen — lucky in the loving and caring husband who will never leave your side.

    I send my very best.
